ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

with the new year, there always comes new years resolutions. this year, I decided that there were a few things that I was really going to work on.
-- better time management
-- manage finances better
-- no more soda
-- eat healthier
-- workout more often
I know they're not much, but hopefully this year I'll be able to actually stick to my resolutions. I feel like year after year, I make these resolutions, and I say the same thing. I stick to them for the first few months and then I'm over it. hopefully this year, I'll be able to hang strong all year! now, I realize I'm almost to end of january, but, still, goals are goals, and I plan to keep them allllllllll.

let's play catch up!

it's been a while since we've played catch up! sooo, let's catch up!
well, Thanksgiving was AWESOME. I got to eat so much homemade food. I still can't believe how much I ate! at mom's we took our annual Christmas Card Picture. I'm really pleased with how it turned out this year!

FAST FORWARD TWO WEEKS.

Brittney and I were able to go to the first weekend of the NFR. it was my first time going without Pops ever! I'm finally a grown up! on our way to Vegas, we got stuck of the I-40 for almost five hours. (yes, you read that right, FIVE hours.) the eastbound I-40 was closed due to a big rig pile up! 18 semi trucks all got stuck on the I-40! we left around 12 noon, and we didn't get to Vegas until ten to 9!

waiting in the snow on the I-40

Brittney wearing my coat after she cleaned the snow off the car in front of us with her snow scraper!
WE FINALLY MADE IT.

Rodeooooo!! :)
 FAST FORWARD TWO WEEKS.

dec. 22: we cut the meat for all of the tamales we make for Christmas day! it was so nice to get to go home and see everyone! not to mention, it was the same night that Arizona State played Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl where they undoubtedly got the bums handed to them. it wasn't a very good game, Boise State ran all over ASU.
dec. 23: we made tamales! OHMYGOSH. they were so good. some of the best we've had in a while. also on this day, Brother had a hair cut scheduled. well, there was a little oopsie-daisies that happen. the gal who cuts Brother's hair put the clippers down, and once she did that, the guard fell off, and once she picked the clippers up again, she didn't realize the guard fell off, and BUZZZZZZZ. she buzzed a square patch right out of the back of his head. (hahaha. quite comical.) once he came home, he had a military fade. i absolutely could NOT believe how short it was. the funny part of the story is, Grandma had told him before he left to not let Mrs. Hairdresser cut it too short, "because I don't like it when she cuts it too short."

good-bye hair.
over-all, Christmas was fabulous. it was so nice to be home and see everyone and all of my family. I hope that Santa found all of you and you had a very happy and merry christmas. :)

now, i'm back in Flagstaff, job hunting, waiting for school to start, enjoying the nice weather, and the peace and quite.

makes you think.

with last Friday being Veteran's Day and all, I just want to say a quick THANK YOU to all of the men and women over seas fighting for our freedom.

so, one of my best friends is in the Army, and he's currently in Afghanistan, and in his last email, he sent me something that I want to share with you. I love it. It really made me think about things and how the world is turning out. my generation's priorities are so screwed up. it's hard to believe.

"Infantrymen have a pride and arrogance that most Americans don't understand and don't like. Even soldiers who aren't Infantrymen don't understand. The pride doesn't exist because we have a job that's physically impressive. It certainly doesn't exist because it takes a higher level of intelligence to perform our duties.... It's sad and I hate to admit it, but any college student or high school grad ca.........n physically do what we do. It's not THAT demanding and doesn't take a physical anomaly. Nobody will ever be able to compare us to professional athletes or fitness models. And it doesn't take a very high IQ to read off serial numbers, pack bags according to a packing list, or know that incoming bullets have the right of way.
The pride of the Infantryman comes not from knowing that he's doing a job that others can't, but that he's doing a job that others simply won't. Many Infantrymen haven't seen a lot of combat. While that may sound ideal to the civilian or non-Infantry soldier, it pains the grunt. We signed up to spit in the face of danger. To walk the line between life and death and live to do it again - or not. To come to terms with our own mortality and let others try to take our life instead of yours. We have raised our hands and said, "Take me, America. I am willing to kill for you. I am willing to sacrifice my limbs for you. I will come back to America scarred and disfigured for you.I will be the first to die for you."
That's why the Infantryman carries himself with pride and arrogance. He's aware that America has lost respect for him. To many he's a blood thirsty animal. To others he's too uneducated and stupid to get a regular job or go to college. Only he knows the truth. While there are few in America who claim to have respect for him, the Infantryman returns from war with less fanfare than a first down in a high school football game. Yes, people hang up their "Support Our Troops" ribbons and on occasion thank us for our service. But in their eyes the infantryman can detect pity and shame; not respect. Consider this: How excited would you be to meet the average Infantryman? Now compare that with how excited you'd be to meet a famous actor or professional sports player and you will find that you, too, are guilty of placing the wrong people on a pedestal. You wouldn't be able to tell me how many soldiers died in the war last month, but you'd damn sure be able to tell me if one of the actors from Twilight died.
Yet the Infantryman doesn't complain about that. He continues to do his job; to volunteer his life for you, all while being paid less in four years than Tom Brady makes in one game. It's a job most Americans don't understand, don't envy, and don't respect. That is why we have pride for the Infantry."

whether or not you support what is going on overseas. whether or not you support the war. remember that men and women volunteered themselves to join the armed forces to fight for something that they believe in. just be thankful for what they are doing for YOU. and keep them in your prayers.
